After an aggressive hurricane season that severely damaged landmasses through out the state,
the Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center presented a two-day
workshop geared at business opportunities for landscape and lawncare service providers.
The "Making New Orleans Green Again" workshop served as a forum to examine
the extent of problems faced by lawn care and landscape service providers. The workshop was
instrumental in linking the small business owners with critical tools to sustaining their
business. They were provided information on restoring permits, licenses and certificates.
Together the participants pursued remedies to their identified problems and determined
areas where further expert help and training may be needed.
As a joint collaboration with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and
Forestry and LSU Ag Center, "Making New Orleans Green Again" provided financial information
on rebuilding these businesses affected by Hurricane Katrina.
The workshop was held on the campuses of the Southern University Agricultural
Research and Extension Center, Southern University New Orleans, and Southern University and
A&M College. Session presenters include representatives from the SU Ag Center, Louisiana
Cooperative Extension Service, LSU Ag Center, Southern University Ag Center. Louisiana
Department of Agriculture and Forestry and the City of New Orleans.
