SU Ag Center's Hunger Awareness Day Event

The United States has experienced great economic prosperity over the last few decades. To help combat this problem, Forum 35, the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, Louisiana State University AgCenter, and Southern University Ag Center has joined forces to form the Louisiana H.U.N.G.E.R. (Help Under-nourished Neighbors Get Essential Resources) Alliance.

The National HUNGER Alliance held an Awareness Event Tuesday, June 7, 2005 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Southern University Ag Center. Mayor Melvin "Kip" Holden addressed the prevalence of hunger in Baton Rouge during his keynote address.

"We were extremely pleased with the responses from all participating organizations, specifically USDA, Capital Area United Way, Albertsons, Dept. of Social Services, and the Dept. of Education, and we are looking forward to next year’s event," says Dr. Fatemeh Malekian, Nutrition Researcher.
