International visit to Turkey enhanced scientific and cultural exchange

Drs. Zhu H. Ning and Kamran Abdollahi, professors of Urban Forestry were among 20 professors selected to participate in the international exchange program sponsored by Turkey. This trip offered a rare chance to gain knowledge on ecosystems and environmental issues.

"The highlight of this trip were the visits to universities," says Dr. Ning. Ning and Abdollahi found that in Turkey share the same goal as the professors at SU - teaching, research, and outreach. "Regardless of where we come from, what ethnic background we have, what religion we believe, we, professors share the same teaching philosophy, that is to contribute to the society by teaching research, and outreach, and by providing positive influence to the students,” Dr. Ning said at a presentation she gave at the University in Istanbul. Dr.Abdollahi also gave presentations on the importance of natural resources and ecosystem protection.

"We were extremely pleased with the responses from all participating organizations, specifically USDA, Capital Area United Way, Albertsons, Dept. of Social Services, and the Dept. of Education, and we are looking forward to next year’s event," says Dr. Fatemeh Malekian, Nutrition Researcher.
